Serving Chatham Since 1931
If you live or own a business in Chatham — whether that's the Village, Chathamport, North Chatham, West Chatham, or South Chatham — you know how demanding the Cape's outer reaches can be on a property. Sitting at the elbow of Cape Cod, Chatham faces some of the most intense coastal conditions on the entire peninsula: relentless salt air off Nantucket Sound and Pleasant Bay, heavy ocean winds, sandy soils, and nor'easters that can reshape a landscape overnight.
John G. Sears & Son has been caring for Chatham properties since 1931. We're not a company that showed up last season — we're your neighbors, and we know exactly what Cape Cod properties need to thrive through every season. From weekly lawn maintenance and seasonal yard cleanup to full landscape redesigns and winter snow removal, our team is ready to help.

John G. Sears & Son has been serving Chatham and the surrounding Cape Cod communities since 1931. We've watched this town grow and change — and we've been caring for its properties through every season, every storm, and every new chapter along the way.
What We Do
Sitting at the elbow of Cape Cod, Chatham faces some of the most demanding coastal conditions on the entire peninsula. Salt air off Nantucket Sound and Pleasant Bay, strong ocean winds, sandy soils, and nor'easters that can reshape a landscape overnight — this town demands real expertise from its landscapers. From the historic sea captain homes along Main Street to the waterfront estates near Stage Harbor and the quiet neighborhoods bordering Pleasant Bay, John G. Sears & Son has been caring for Chatham properties since 1931. Whether it's waterfront landscaping for an estate on Pleasant Bay, beach property care along Cockle Cove Road, or luxury landscape design for a historic Main Street home — we know the soils, the seasonal rhythms, and the high standard that Chatham homeowners expect.

All of Chatham
From the historic Village to the waterfront estates of North Chatham, we serve every corner of Chatham, MA.
The Village is where Chatham makes its first impression. The Shore Road estates, the properties framing the Lighthouse, the formal gardens along Main Street — these are high-visibility properties in one of the most exposed coastal settings on the Cape. Our work here leans toward curated plantings and hardscaping that can hold up against the Atlantic without looking like it's trying too hard.
North Chatham has a quieter, more private feel — wooded lots along Pleasant Bay, established homes set well back from the road, landscapes that have been growing for decades. A lot of the work here is about knowing what not to touch: protecting mature trees, respecting root systems, maintaining what took twenty years to build. That takes experience more than anything else.
Down around Harding's Beach and Cockle Cove, the wind and salt spray off Nantucket Sound are relentless. The sandy soil here drains a fertilizer application almost before you're done spreading it. Lawns in South Chatham need a different program than most of the Cape — and plantings that can actually handle the exposure. We've had plenty of time to figure out what works.
West Chatham is more about the year-round reality of living on the Cape than the waterfront drama a few miles east. A mix of longtime residents and seasonal properties, older homes alongside newer construction — and the everyday work of keeping a property looking right through all four seasons. Same Cape soils, same nor'easters, and the same crew that's been taking care of this town for a long time.
